Budgeree Hall Generator Launch

The Budgeree Hall recently received a community generator funded by the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund and Emergency Recovery Victoria. The project was delivered through a collaboration between the South Ward Community Disaster Recovery Committee (SWCDRC), Latrobe City Council and the Budgeree Hall Committee.

The need for a generator was identified as a community priority following on from the Budgeree, Yinnar South and Jumbuk fires in 2019 and the June 2021 storm event. During these natural disasters, the Budgeree community were isolated for up to nine days without telecommunications or electricity.

The SWCDRC advocated for the generator to support the Budgeree community to become more resilient in future emergencies. The generator has already been put to good use following on from last week’s storm event where the community were able to be provided with access to power up their devices, chat and use the internet.

The Budgeree community gathered yesterday to officially open the generator with Deputy Mayor Cr Lund, Andy Tegart President of GERF, Bob Hingst representing the SWCDRC and officers from Latrobe City Council.
